Halloween

Yesterday was Halloween, obviously. It isn't celebrated here. Well, not really. Some people do a little bit, at the mall on Saturday I saw a few little kids in costumes, and one bookstores' employees were all in costume. For the most part though, it's regarded as an anti-christian holiday. I actually got a pamphlet that was sent out by the archdiocese here about why Halloween should not be celebrated. It was all about how Halloween is a night exalting witchcraft, Jesus was against witchcraft in all forms, etc. Reading it I was kind of shocked, for me Halloween means dressing up, eating lots of candy, and for the past few years, making Teddy Tschann's house a place of legend among the youngsters of the Woodlawn Ave area.

On Sunday night we had a mini-Halloween celebration. By that I mean a bunch of people came over to watch Scream 4. No costumes or anything crazy like that. I'm not a huge scary movie guy, and by that I mean I hate scary movies and get scared easily. It was fun to do something even as small as that for Halloween to make it seem a little more like this time of year. It really does not feel like November 1st right now. It's still 90-95 degrees out every day, all the trees are green, etc. I never realized how much I enjoy the changing of seasons until now when there isn't any change.
